Kia KND-4 Concept

Kia has chosen April and the Auto Show from Seoul for making public its new SUV concept. The car is called KND –4 and is painted in light green, its colour being very suggestive for its eco-friendly character. Although it is perfectly functional, the SUV will never be a series product in the current shape, this being just a design exercise. But the future off road cars of compact class from KIA will borrow a good part from the elements experimented on the KND –4. The prototype is the first KIA car that speaks about its new vision “Designology”The word describes itself as a happy combination of the bold design with last hour technology and represents a new vision by which Koreans are building their future cars. “KND is a concept that wants to prove the KIA capacity of conceiving and producing sophisticated cars as design and with great technological capability”, wanted to understate one of Kia Motors managers.The concept has four seats and the interior is almost SF. It is dressed in light colours being enhanced by aluminium inserts and “hidden” lights. At the level of equipment, KND 4 could easily enter the IT category. The driver has a lot of road condition info, state of the vehicle, information provided by a series of sensors that “cover” the entire car.KND 4 is monitored with a propeller of 2.2 litter, diesel (with very low level of pollution). The integral traction is insured by the newest KIA transmission system, called Active Torque Transfer (ATT). The system is directing the power of the engine in conditions of loosing traction to the wheels with higher adherence.The name of the KND car comes from the entitling of the design centre of Kia from Korea which has made the project (Kia Namyang Design Centre). The number 4 means that the prototype has full traction.

Koenigsegg CCGT Race Car

A new race car has been created by the Swedish supercar maker Koenigsegg this year, on March 2nd, based on the production CC-model range.The homologated GT1 racer, the CCGT will be presented at the Geneva Show, on March the 3rd.
The Koenigsegg Development team has done a great job by refining the CC into the CCGT. The CCGT engine is based on the Koenigsegg CCX production engine with the superchargers removed but enlarged to 5.0 litre, in order to comply with the ACO and FIA GT1 regulations.
Most manufacturers are trying undergo massive weight saving programs, as the minimum wight allowed for a GTI race car is 1,100kg. Conisdering the fact that the racing CCGT wighs under 1.000 kg - which gives the possibility to place 100 kg of ballast freely within the car structure – Koenigsegg will definetly have an advantage over the competition. On the other hand, the CCGT has pretty short overhands which could be an issue when it comes to generating enough downforce. Still, by further developing the clever and “slippery” design concept of the CC range, Koenigsegg believes they have created a unique package incorporating a surprising amount of down-force combined with a very compact package and optimal weight distribution. The advantage over most of the competition will definately be seen in the future racing combats, since since the CCGT has a short overall length and low overall height, whilst still maintaining adequate track width and length. The reliability of the race engine is expected be exceptional as it is based on the proven strength and durability of the significantly more powerful road car engine.The race engine is being developed in-house in parallel with the production units by Koenigsegg engineers, supported by Anders Hoglund from Cargine engineering and JP Motorsport.

On he other side, we do not know yet how many adversaries will have something in hand to contest its supremacy, knowing the fact that the octane value (way over 100) has increased the value of the car at 1.018hp.Although the Nordic team did not officially reveal what this data will mean on the road (the car has a torque of 1060 nm at 6100 rpm), there is no doubt that the CCXR has the potential to go way under 3 seconds by 100 km/h and to shatter the 400 km /h border. Following the long-term strategy of Koenigsegg, all previous CCXs will have the possibility to be converted by the factory to accept the biofuel option.The CCXR Biofuel upgrade has been developed in-house on the factory’s engine dyno by the skilled technicians at Koenigsegg, led by Christian Koenigsegg, Marco Garver and Anders Hoglund from the Koenigsegg partner company Cargine Engineering.

The super car was produced by Nissan in 2003, and it`s available in 2 versions, first version is FX35 and second FX45. The second version Fx45 uses a 4500 V8 engine (315 Horsepower) with a five speed automatic transmission and the Fx35 is powered by a 3,5 L V6 engine.
In 2006 both of cars (Fx35 and Fx45) were upgraded with new options, the Fx45 engine engages now 320 Horsepower, more with 5 hp :).

When we talk about the performance of the Fx series, we must say that Fx35 has a max speed of 137 mp/h, reaches 100 km/h in 7 seconds and Fx45 has a top speed similar with FX 35, but it’s touching 100 Km/h in 6,3 seconds.
Similar cars with Fx series are Bmw X5 and Lexus Gx. It`s not a real super car but it’s features makes us think otherwise.

After the great success that the G35 coupe has had in the past, Infinity launches a new sport coupe G37. Since 2003, when it arrived, the model G coupe has had annual sales of almost 26 000, number that accounts for nearly 40 percent of all G sales. Taking into account the fact the numbers reached in 2006 – over 20000 (more than BMW did 3 Series Coupes- slightly under 15000), no one can say now that coupes are dead.It would be only natural that after such a huge success Infinity would bring to front a fresh two door of its own, especially if they want to keep BMW tense a little after they have just released the twin-turbocharged, 300-horsepower E92 335i coupe.The G-Coupe interior has been remodeled, the chassis has been tweaked and the styling has been brought to a higher level. 37 more horsepower has been added to the new V6. So the new G37 will be propelled by the new .7 liter VQ series V6 with 330 horses and 270 pound-feet of torque. The VQ will definitely be found into other Infinity products like the FX sport, M and G sedans or maybe the next Nissan Z or the upcoming Skyline GT –R. The QarmaQ concept is the result of the cooperation between the 2 companies and brings, as novelty, a vista of the kind that only a view from the chopper gives, because of the great surface of the plasticized windows from the car’s body.By integrating GE’s polycarbonate glazing wrap-around and the GE Lexan windscreens, the body weight of the cars is reduced by almost 50 %. A unique technology characterizes Lexan screens: Exatec Technology. It’ s a technology through which a thin, protective layer of glass is deposited on the screen, which helps when protecting from scratching or effects of humidity. The material, much lighter than traditional glass used in automotive industry, also increases the impact resistance and both occupant and pedestrian safety. When talking about pedestrian safety, we can also mention the system that uses deformable sections under the concept’s body panels, which is able to absorb crush energy in case a collision with a person may happen.GE Plastics’ High Performance Thermoplastic Composite (which is used for the horizontal body panels) manages to also save some weight. 900 recycled plastic bottles have been used when manufacturing other body panels.The new concept is a showcase of 30 new technologies that will be found in the future Hyundai models. The Brooklands captures all the style, power and splendour of that era.”The luxury four-seated features a higher-output version of the Azure’s hand-built, 6.75-liter, twin-turbocharged V8, producing 530 hp and 774 lb-ft of torque in the Brooklands. Bentley notes the engine is the latest and greatest evolution of the venerable Crewe-built V8 launched in 1959 as a 6.23-liter unit that produced 200 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. If we are talking about cars that stared in movies like Batman, Agent 007 we can see that the companies produced some prototypes that are featured with a special and distinguish design, with powerful motors and a lot of astonishing characteristics.The main question is, in what kind of measures someone can produce a car thought for 2035? How can they predict what kind of motor will be using, what kinds of features and especially, what will be the top speed of one of this future cars?The Audi manufacturer imagined how can all this will be.Audi made a prototype that is supposed to be used in the future, based on the story of the movie I Robot, a car that can be drove in the year 2035.For the first time, the manufacturer Audi collaborated with the I Robot movie director Alex Proyas on this project. They made a car that contains of course, first of all, the emblem of Audi company, the 4 rings and the traditional design of all Audi cars.The special parts that may be said that comes from the future thinking are the wheels transformed in spheres and the butterfly doors.We may say that the company has not thought yet about what kind of engine the car will use, what kind of speed and other elements of technology, the car is made more for it`s sequential appearance in that movie and not for it`s ability of his technical characteristics. For all that we may agree that the concept of future car remains just an idea, because nobody can actually know what kind of engine can be conceived for all the new fuels that our scientist are now just in the phase of experimenting.

Once again, ABT Sportline, Audi’s tuner brings us a super car. The Audi TT Roadster is the newest tuning made by ABT. Upgrades were made at the bodykit. Actually the whole bodykit was replaced with a new one designed be ABT. This new bodykit enhances the car’s look together with the 4-pipe rear muffler. Before the tuning, it looked like a sport car. But now it looks like a super sport car. As for the wheels, ABT recommended 19 inch or 20-inch wheels, because the car would look better. What car doesn’t look better with 9-inch wheels ?This Audi is equiped with a V6 engine of 3,2 liter which generates 355 HP. With the V6 engine , you can get from 0 to 100 km/h in aproximative 5 seconds. Another upgrades made by ABT are the suspension kit and the brake system. The suspension kit was replaced with a new ABT version, adapted to the car’s requests, and the brake system was again replaced with the ABT version, this one having a larger brake disc.This new convertible from Audi deserves a place in the super cars top. Not for the engine, but for the design.

The first serious answer from Ferrari FXX comes from a pretty unexpected direction: the British producer ASCARI.ASCARI was born in 1995, in Dorset and only recently has managed to make an important entrance on the supercar market with model KZ1. A10 has the pretence to be the fastest car in the circuit, among the homologated cars for street use. This is an affirmation not exactly that easy to sustain, considering that monsters like Veyron and also extra-light cars like Ariel Atom are also homologated for street use.But it seems that the officials at ASCARI are very sure of their statements. After that, the same officials come and bring it a step further by saying that A10 can have on the circuit extremely close to an FFX time. Pretty amazing, huh?The car is entirely hand built in Branbury, it weighs around 1200 kg, being mostly built from carbon and aluminium fibre and having an engine of 625 HP. So, until now, not very spectacular.But the start –up is simply incredible: 0-100 in 2.8 seconds and 0-160 km/h in under 6 seconds. How is it possible to obtain such times with such report mass/power? It’s very likely that the transmission may be a real engineering masterpiece.Ascari A10 is much stronger than a KZ1, the modified parts going from new body panels to a new engine and transmission plus a brake modified system capable to absorb the extra power.There will be produced only 10 units, at a price of 520 000euro. If it seems too much, think about the fact that an Enzo FXX costs 1.5 million Euro and is restrictioned at circuit use.

As for the body design, the engineers wanted to make it look like a race car. The Golf is equipped with 19-inch format tires, in the front with 235 model, while in the back it has 295 model. It is 1.88 meters width and 1.42 meters height. The designers said that they want to make it look a little with a coupe so they changed the body kit. Now, Golf 650 PS has the chassis with 80 mm wider in both sides, and the tires are moved with 80 mm to the exterior. This is another feature that makes the 650 PS a sport car. The roof of this car is built from a carbon-fiber material, looking very good and helps achieving more road grip, as the race cars. In the rear you can notice the two tailpipes, made out of chrome. The interior is again, race car style. The seats are covered in leather, the interior is equipped with a fire extinguisher and the driver panel includes the “flip-up switch covers”, as in a race car. The door trims were modified for weight reasons. The car still has many GTI characters and really looks like a GTI, only “upgraded”. They thought about every detail when designed this car.

The new Chevy Corvette coupe and convertible will get a little bit closer to its extremely fast Z06 brother performances. In 2007, the LS2 6.0 liter V8 has been removed from the fibre glass engine compartment and replaced with a brand new, with enhanced structure, all aluminum 6.2 unit.The new engine LS3 has SAE certification and its technical specifications are 430 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque with the standard exhaust system, or 436 hp and 428 lb-ft with an optional dual-mode exhaust. This engine is, at 6200, only400 rpm far away from Z06 (7000-rpm maximum speed).The LS3 has borrowed some of the technology from the Z06’s LS7 7.0-liter (like the cylinder head design and the fuel injectors) and it has the same stork as the previous 6.0 liter. It has an increase in displacement, which originates from an increase in bore from 101.6 mm to 103.3 mm and a new camshaft lifts 5 percent higher the intake valves which are also larger than the old engine (with 9%).The engine cover and the acoustically tuned intake manifold will provide the LS3 with a better, more refined sound, which is piped through an exhaust tubing system of 2.5 inches (half inch smaller than that from the Z06).The base Corvette has now a coefficient of drag of and 290 mph and improvements do not end here, because there are also tactile enhancing on both six speed transmissions. Shifts in the automatic can be changed a whole lot quickly now, reaching a 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds which represents the highest reached by a 2-pedal Corvette.The wheels on the 2008 model are measuring 18 inches diameter infront and 19 inches in the rear. They are made from aluminium and they bring another improvement on the list: steering feel is better and that is also due to the improved machining process.Now, on the interior, the list of improvements continues. BMW Z10

BMW has announced that they will unveil in late 2008 a direct competitor for supercars like Audi R8, Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo. This will entitle BMW to have something more to state in the supercars world.It’s known that BMW cars are not exactly the most powerful sports cars, that is why aluminium, carbon fibre and magnesium will be the materials that the car’s body –BMW Z10 - will be made of. The low weight car, around 2645 lbs., will be close as size to Lamborghini Gallardo, except it will have 550 lbs. less in weight. The other dimensions would be: a wheelbase of 2560 mm, overall length of 4300 mm, width of 1900 mm and height of 1165 mm.BMW Z10 will use wind directing elements as active spoilers, which will modify their position by the speed of the car (its one of the first cars to use this concept).The development targets for the Z10 will be a rear/mid-engine supercar that will be powered by V10 turbochargers. The Z9 Gran Turismo concept car has been revealed in 1999, at the Frankfurt Auto Show. US home sales continue downwards

The US housing market remained sluggish last month, latest figures have shown, with sales of existing homes at their lowest level in four years.

Sales fell 0.3% to 5.99 million units in May, the slowest pace of growth since summer 2003, according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR).

Sales are now 10% lower than a year ago, when 6.68 million units were sold.

The sharp downturn in the housing market, after years of stellar growth, has shown little sign of bottoming out.

The number of unsold homes rose 5% to 4.43 million units.

Brittle confidence

Lack of confidence in the market has had an impact on the broader state of the US economy, with GDP growth falling to 1.3% in the first three months of the year.

Several experts have lowered their growth forecasts for the whole of 2007, citing the weakness in the housing sector.

The National Association of Business Economists (NABE) cut its forecast for economic growth from 2.8% to 2.3%.

The NAR measures house prices by their median point, the exact spot between the lower and upper half of prices.

The median price of an existing US home is now $223,700 (£119.000), 2.1% less than the midpoint value in May 2006.
